How To Unwind During Lockdown

I don't mean to keep reminding you all of the current crappy circumstances, but it's very hard to ignore isn't it? It's such a challenging time for everyone and it can be really hard to unwind at the end of the day. Lots of us are working from home at the moment which can make it harder to feel like you're switching off from the day when you're starting and finishing your day in the same four walls.
With this in mind, we've put together some of our top tips on how to unwind during these uncertain, crazy times.

1. Breathe

It sounds so simple, but sometimes after a long and stressful day it's really easy to forget the smallest things, like remembering to take a loooooong deep breath. If I ever I just need a moment I'll stick on my favourite playlist, close my eyes and breathe. Sometimes I'll picture I'm chilling by the beach with a cocktail in hand....dreamy! All jokes aside though, it really does wonders for the soul and can help to switch your mind off a little. Apps like Headspace and CALM are also great ways to plan in little relaxation exercises and meditation (also great if you're a meditation newbie.)

2. Go for a walk

I think it's safe to say that a lot of us are spending most of the day at our desks, so getting some fresh air and stretching your legs can really help you to unwind. This is also a great way to help you feel like you're 'leaving' your working day behind you, even if you're just doing this mentally. Try to leave your phone at home so you can fully enjoy some downtime without notifications going off left right and centre. Maybe try a different route and create a little adventure for yourself away from distractions.

3. Turn off email alerts

This can be a difficult thing to do because your mind makes you constantly worry about that REALLY important email that MIGHT appear in your inbox. Reality is, the majority of the time this isn't the case and once your working day is over, it is okay to switch off. That 'really' important email can wait until tomorrow. So turn off those email alerts and notifications, pop the kettle on and enjoy a nice cuppa.

4. Try something new

It's easy to get caught up in the same monotonous routine day in day out, more so when we're stuck at home because of a bloomin' national lockdown. If we try and see the positives of this pretty shitty situation, it creates the time and opportunity to try something new. Is there something that you've always wanted to try but you just keep putting off? Or is there something you've been too scared to try? This is your chance to just do it! Whether it's brushing up on your cooking skills, writing a blog or signing up to a course. Do it. If the last year has taught us anything, it's that time is precious. So don't put it off, try that something new!

5. Pamper yourself

Who doesn't love a good pamper session? Grab your best smelling candles, stick on your fave playlist or Netflix show and run yourself a bath. Take that time out of your day just for you, alone, to really relax and make yourself feel good inside and out. Of course a good face mask can't go a miss. If you're feeling super adventurous you could set up your own little nail bar and get those nails looking on fleek (I can't believe I actually just said that fleek!) You deserve to treat yourself and feel bloomin' beautiful!

There you have it, some of our top tips on how to unwind during these weird times. Remember to listen to your body and your needs and to take things slowly. We're all trying to ride that wave - we all deal with things differently and find comfort in our own ways and remember, that is okay!
